On March 17 the Public Administration Academy of RA and the Public Information Department of the United Nations in Armenia signed a cooperation agreement. In the frameworks of the cooperation a UN Model Conference will be held on April 26, in which students from the Public Administration Academy of RA, European Regional Academy and State University of Economics in Armenia will participate. Taking account of the fact that in April the 20-th anniversary of Rwanda Genocide will be marked, that is why for the conference the theme of genocide has been chosen. “This conference will provide the students with an opportunity to examine the UN convention on genocide, UN regulation, and to get acquainted with “responsibility of protection” principle targeted on genocide prevention, and in general to know everything that is possible to know,” said Amine Halajyan who is responsible for information at the UN Public Information Department. “Students will learn what violence was done during Rwanda Genocide and what justice mechanisms operated after the genocide: a temporary court for Rwanda issues was established, before which criminals were brought.”
Before the UN Model Conference students chosen from the three universities took part in the seminar. During the first seminar they gained information on the UN and its principles.
One more seminar was held on April 2 at the Public Administration Academy of RA. This time the topic of the seminar was rhetoric. Political scientist Artak Shakaryan presented the main principles of rhetoric spoke about some skills necessary for a spokesman.
Before the conference takes place the students of the three universities will attend some more seminars. In one case they will examine the UN Model working procedure, will learn how to hold a conference, and at another seminar the RA Foreign Affairs representative will speak about the phenomenon of “genocide” and the new principle of “responsibility of protection”. Then the negotiation skills which they will need during the conference will be introduced to them.
