In 2002, the Chair on Applied Psychology and Social Development was established at PAARA, which later was renamed Chair on Psychology, Chair on Psychology of Management.
It is one of the structural education and science departments of PAARA. From 2002 to 2003 the Chair was headed by Doctor of Psychology, Professor Naira Hakobyan, from 2003 to 2006 by Doctor of Psychology, Professor Mels Mkrtumyan, from 2006-2007 by Doctor of Psychology, Professor Samvel Khudoyan, and by Doctor of Psychology, Professor Vladimir Karapetyan.
From 2011 to March 30, 2021, the Chair was headed by PhD in Psychology, Professor Ruben Aghuzumtsyan.
On March 31, 2021, Mrs Laura Petrosyan, PhD in Psychology and Associate Professor, was elected Head of the Chair by the decision of the Academic Council of PAARA.
Mission of Chair
The Chair pursues the development of a competitive scientific and educational structure compliant with the international and national standards to implement study programs on Psychology and other related interdisciplinary ones highlighting the development issues in Armenia.
The Mission of the Chair is to detect the psychological regularities of the work problems in public and private sectors and to propose ways of development.
The Aims and Objectives of the “Psychology of Management” Study Program:
- Contribution to the development of the human potential in the public administration system and private sector by delivering courses and training aimed at the important professional and psychological qualities for managers/administrators, administration specialists, and others employed in the public and private sectors;
- Contribution to the processes of improvement and development in PAARA, by creating internationally competitive and dynamically developing study programs and providing relevant education services;
- Encouraging the continuous participation of the stakeholders, students, and graduates interested in the Psychology of Management in professional training, inter-chair academic cooperation, as well as many other events organized by the Chair with the participation of international experts;
- Comprehensive planning, effective implementation and sustainable development of the mechanisms of participatory decision-making and accountability of the Chair activity encouraging the application of the professional ethics and ensuring transparency among stakeholders;
- Implementation of the mapping of the employers in the focal research and study program fields defined in the frame of the Chair activity in line with the sectoral directions of training of the specialists to be required in the future.
Teaching
The Chair consists of a PhD in Psychology, three associate professors, a professor, two doctor-professors.
The Chair provides:
- “Psychology of Management” Study Program;
- “ Human Resource Management ” Inter-Chair Study Program in Conjunction with the Chair of Management;
- Professional Post-Graduate Programs in the format of PhD, (PhD) Degree Seeker and Postdoctoral Programs in the (ԺԹ/ZHT.00.01) “General Psychology, Theory and History of Psychology, Psychology of Personality” specialization;
- Qualification improvement and training courses for specialists through supplementary educational programs.
Research Activity
The faculty, Master’s and PhD students of the Chair regularly publish scholarly articles, methodological papers related to the current issues in Psychology of Management.
The Chair cooperates with local and international academic structures and universities.
